2015: Akume, Ortom Disagree on Choice of DG

Dr. Samuel Ortom

There is palpable tension in the All Progressives Congress ( APC ),  as there has developed a disagreement between the governorship aspirant, Dr. Samuel Ortom and the party leader in the state, Sen. George Akume over the choice of a Director-General for the governorship campaign organisation.
According to an inside source the disagreement is why the campaign organisation is yet to appoint a Director-General. It was gathered that the governorship candidate had preferred Arc. Joe Ikyaagba, who Akume has rejected on account of certain disagreements and claimed inconsistency and back stabbing.

Sen. George Akume

In the same vein the nominee of the senate minority leader’s nominee, Barr. Moses A tagger, a one time Executive Director at Federal Mortgage Bank, suffered a shock as the nomination was turned down based on acclaimed principal, saying he was not in support of the circumstances leading to Ortom’s emergency as flag-bearer.
Also approached with the offer, is former Action Congress of Nigeria ( ACN ),  and APC governorship aspirant, Prof. Steve Ugbah who has taken the party to court, who turned it down under the pretence that he be given time to think over the matter.
Following from this development, the APC is yet to inaugurate her state campaign team a few days to the general elections,  leaving their supporters dumbfounded as to the party’s ability to properly carry on in an organised manner. Feelers are that the party officials are also confused as to how to proceed.  They have accused the party leader, Sen. Akume of  being responsible for the party’s general lack of direction and declining public sympathy.
They have attributed the lack of zeal amongst party members which has contributed to the party’s failure to reach the electorates even as the hunger for change is prevalent, as it continues to grapple with one controversy after another as a result of last December’s controversial primaries or out right imposition of candidates.
Already the party in the state is engulfed in a series of litigation emanating from the faulted primaries. Some of the cases include those of: Hon. Emmanuel Jime,  Prof. Steve Ugbah (Guber), Adaa Maagbe (Senate), Engr. George Nduul,  Frank U too,  Terhide Utaan (House of Representatives) and a couple of others whose filling was said to have been prevented or delayed by the strike.
Public reaction is of mixed feelings, but one thing appears consistent,  that the APC may have succeeded in dampening previous public sympathy and growing wind of change that seemed to have enveloped the Benue political atmosphere.
