Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has said that his administration will not stifle the opposition in the state so that democracy can thrive at its best.

Ortom made the remark while delivering his speech at IBB Square in Makurdi, during a fb_img_1447969382720.jpgreception held to celebrate his victory at the Supreme Court.

“Let me assure that we are not out to stifle the opposition. Democracy thrives best in the face of a vibrant opposition. Let all citizens of the state, however, drop political cleavages and focus on the Benue project for the future of our present and children yet unborn,” he said.

What is an agreement?

A negotiated and usually legally enforceable understanding between two or more legally competent parties.

Although a binding contract can (and often does)result from an agreement, an agreement typically

documents the give-and-tak
e of a negotiated settlement and a contract specifies the minimum acceptable standard of performance.

If an agreement is illegal, then it is not enforceable and you can break it without legal sanctionimg_8407.jpgs. Also, if an agreement has restrictions that are too broad, which we see in the case of restrictive covenants that are drawn too
widely or for too long. In those circumstances you can avoid t
hose restrictions without sanction. The uncertainty of those situations is, however, irksome and it is not until you actually go before a judge that you will finally know whether or not they are enforceable.

  • As Plot To Remove Ikyange Thickens

All is not yet well with the leadership of the Benue State House of Assembly, as last is yet to have been heard of the tussle to unseat the Speaker, Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange.
This is even as some members have vowed to oust the Speaker who they believe is unfit to continue leading the House due to a court ruling delimiting his constituency into two.

The session which was just before the Governor Samuel Ortom’s budget presentation to the Assembly became very rowdy and was heading for the worst before Majority Leader and member representing Makurdi-South constituency, Barr. Benjamin Adanyi doused the tension in the favour of the Speaker. (more…)
