“It is in view of your exalted status among the Tiv and people of Benue in general that we felt we should pay you this condolence visit,” Sanda says.

The President of the Tiv Cultural Association of Yola, Mr Terkimbi Tyona, offered his condolences on behalf of his association.

“The title you hold places you in the same category as other members of the Tiv Traditional Council,” Mr Tyona says. “In this regard we know that you will play your role in ensuring a peaceful transition when a new replacement steps into the shoes of the late traditional father.”

He says the office of the Tor Tiv was very important for peace and harmony not just in Benue State, but in neighbouring states of Nasarawa and Taraba where the Tiv formed a significant part of the population.
