. As Court Grants Probe Panels Right To Continue

More trouble may be on the way for embattled former Benue state governor,  Gabriel Suswam as the High Court sitting in Makurdi today dismissed his suit to stop the commission of inquiry setup by the Benue state government to look into the dealings of his administration.

Suswam who is also facing corruption allegations at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was on the 12th October granted a stay of execution stopping the Committees from sitting till the hearing of today’s substantive motion which was truck out by Justice Adam Onum.

Delivering judgement on the matter, Justice Onum said the panels were constitutional and thus could not be considered witch-hunting as the state governor has been empowered by the constitution to set up such panels.

“The 1st Respondent, (The Governor of Benue State) has powers to constitute these panels therefore the constitution of the Commission of Enquiry is not a witch hunt. If you are not a witch, you cannot not be witch hunted”. He said.

With the suit out of the way the order earlier placed against Justice Elizabeth Kpojime’s Commission of Inquiry following the suit filed by former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has been vacated  and the commission can now proceed.
