The Benue state government has ordered the immediate payment of salary arrears owed civil servants from the bailout funds availed the state by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) .
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of a consultative meeting between government and the state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) .
In the communique signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Bar. Targema Takema the governor has ordered the immediate payment of salary arrears to all state and local government workers without prejudice to ongoing biometric exercise.
“After due consultations and deliberations, with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC) I II and III, the Executive Governor has directed the immediate payment of salary arrears from the bailout funds”. It stated in part.
It further added that the ongoing biometric screening in the state will be used for future payments of salaries.
It could be recalled that the Benue State government has been under a lot of criticism from groups and individuals over its decision to screen and verify workers before the application of the 28 billion Naira CBN into payment of salary arrears.
