The much awaited 2015 edition of Benue Girls Soar, a mentorship summit annually organised by the Glamorous Mothers Development Initiative (GLAMODI) yesterday took place at the JS Tarka Foundation, Makurdi, Benue State amidst resounding excitement and inspiring talks from celebrated women-achievers who took turns to interact with girls in colleges across Benue State.
Commemorating the United Nations Day of the Girl, guest speakers addressed this year’s theme tagged “The Power of the Adolescent
Girls: Visions 2030”, from diverse perspectives but were unanimous on the need for girls to maximize their potentials, excel and behave responsibly in contemporary society in view of the many challenges faced by the girl child. Guest speakers included: Hon. Barr. Mwuese Mnyim, Commissioner, Benue State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, who also represented the Wife of the Executive Governor of Benue State, Mrs. Eunice Ortom; Mrs. Iwanger Jennifer Igoh, CEO, Jenny’s World; Miss Love Idoko, CEO, Dream Pointers; Mrs. Ngunan Adingi, Hon. Member, Benue State House of Assembly; Arch. Nguvan Ikyenge, CEO, Lush Events, and Mrs. Julieth Wombo, President, Kwande Sisters Foundation, Abuja.
Earlier in a welcome address, Mrs. Stephanie Apel, the Executive Director of GLAMODI and convener of the summit, emphasized that the programme became necessary so as to mentor girls in colleges across Benue State and prepare them for future opportunities.
Participants were drawn from several schools including: Tilley Gyado College, Makurdi; Angus College, Makurdi; Dyege Memorial College, Makurdi; Idye NKST Secondary School, Makurdi; Government Girls’ College, Makurdi; Trust Academy, Makurdi; Demonstration Special Arts & Science School, Makurdi and St. Mary’s Secondary School, Adikpo. Guests at the summit included: Alfred Tersoo Buter, President Rotary Club of Makurdi Sunrise, Mrs. Wuashe Wundu and host of well-wishers.
Highpoints of this summit were interactive session, poetry recitations, song renditions and presentation of awards to deserving women who were recognized for adding value to society creditably. While Mrs. Linda Ochagla, the Founder/CEO of Global Care for Kids Foundation, received the Gifted & Soaring Award, Mrs. Dorcas Mbawuese Ayangeor, a veteran vocational trainer went home with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Judging from the charged atmosphere, applauses and insightful presentations from guest speakers during the proceedings, Benue Girls Soar 2015 may arguably be described as the most intriguing edition in the series.
