Lawmakers at the Benue State House of Assembly today exchanged fisticuffs on the resumption of plenary after disagreement over the election of a majority leader.
The brawl broke out following the election of Barr Adanyi of the (APC Makurdi south) as Majority leader.
According to reports from the assembly chambers, Hon. Martins Aza (PDP Makurdi North) objected the election on the grounds that the PDP has 16 elected parliamentarians in the house so the position of Majority leader should naturally belong to the PDP and the APC with 14 Lawmakers should have the Minority leader.
Unfortunately, Hon. Aza was apparently unaware of Hon Nick Eworo’s defection to the APC which was announced on the floor of the house last week from the PDP to the APC.
This led to a heated argument which ensued between the two lawmakers ending in the resultant fisticuffs, save for the timely intervention of other lawmakers present prevented the lawmakers from causing more harm.
