• Declares support for Akume as next Senate President

Former Military Administrator of Katsina and Plateau States and a Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress in Benue State, Major General Lawrence Anebi Onoja (Rtd) has attributed the electoral victories of the President-elect, Gen. Muhammad Buhari and Benue
Governor-elect, Chief Samuel Ortom as an “act of God” and pure evidences of God’s divine interventions in Nigeria and Benue State.
Gen. Onoja made these remarks on today in a telephone chat.
According to the Benue-born General, “God has really heard the cries of Nigerians and Benue people and He has decided to intervene at this crucial period of our lives by giving us the combinations of Gen. Muhammad Buhari and Chief Samuel Ortom.
“I had the opportunity of serving in Gen. Buhari’s home state, Katsina and all I can tell you is that, he is the kind of man that Nigerians need now, owing to his zero tolerance for corruption.
“I’m very sure he would purge the country of the corruption that have eaten deep into her linen and also position the nation in more favourable economic position among the comity of nations”.
The Chieftain of Arewa Consultative Forum also said that God purposely brought Ortom to Benue State to liberate the Food Basket State from drowning.
“Imagine how Civil Servants die cheaply because of nonpayment of salaries and also Students can’t graduate regularly due to incessant strike actions.
“I have confidence in Chief Ortom and Engr. Abounu to put a lasting end to the sufferings of Benue workers and also industrialise the State”, he added.
While congratulating Gen. Muhammad Buhari, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, Dr. Samuel Ortom and Engr. Benson Abounu for their victories in the just concluded general elections; the ‘Oyame K’Idekpa’ called on Nigerians and the people of Benue State to support the incoming government and keep faith with the leaders to enable them deliver on their campaign promises.
On the current contest for the seat of the Presidency of Nigeria’s 8th Senate, Gen. Onoja called on the Senators-elect to unanimously support and vote for former Governor of Benue State, Dr. George Akume, whom he described as an “embodiment of unity in Nigeria polity and an enigma of stability in the National Assembly”.
He was optimistic that if elected, Akume would not only represent the interest of his immediate Constituency, but he would also carry everyone along.
Gen. Onoja particularly called on Benue and Idoma people to pray for George Akume to succeed in his bid, saying the Senator is a detribalised Nigerian who has the love of Idoma people at heart.
“George Akume will be favourably disposed to Idoma people if he becomes the Senate President”, he submitted.
