As Members set to impeach Suswam and Ayua

Subsequent to yesterday’s closed door meeting and threat to impeach both the governor and Speaker,  the  Benue State House of Assembly complex was today

Hon. Emmanuel Ayua

shut and members denied access to the chamber.

The lawmakers, including members of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had held an emergency session on Wednesday to collect signatures so as to impeach the speaker.

The action of the assembly members is hinged on the speakers’ alleged inability to defend their welfare before the executive arm of government hence their salaries were owed and that the speaker also connived with the governor, without the consent of members to approve and assent the bills for revenue administration and chieftaincy appointment.

Yesterday, the assembly complex was under lock and key, just as lawmakers and other legislative staff totally deserted the place. It was gathered that some lawmakers and legislative workers who came to work without knowing went disappointed.

Sources in the assembly said the speaker, Ayua had directed the clerk and security operatives in the assembly to shut the complex. The mace was also reportedly carted away.

It was gathered that some aggrieved PDP lawmakers who lost re-election and members of the APC who were sidelined in the governor’s largesse to influence the lawmakers to approve the chieftaincy bill, called for the impeachment of the speaker.
