Hon. Terhemen Ayua

Even as it is less than six weeks to the inauguration of the 8th State Assembly,  the Benue State House of Assembly may change leadership, even as 18 members of The asembly have signed an impeachment notice on the Speaker of the Assembly,  Hon. Terhemen Ayua.

Although the Assembly did not sit today, the members of the assembly held a closed door negotiatory meeting with the senate president on whom a vote of no confidence is about to be passed to negotiate terms and find a leeway for the speaker.
According to our sources at the Assembly,  the grouse of the members is stemmed from the fact that the Speaker, has not been able to defend the interests of the members before the governor.

The impeachment which is led by the Minority Leader, Hon. Benjamin Adanyi,  is also believed to have been stemmed from the recent bills passed by the assembly where members of the opposition walked out of the sitting during deliberation of the Local Government, Benue Internal Revenue Service ( BIRS ),  Chieftaincy Bills.

According to our source the Majority leader of the House,  Hon. Paul Biam was believed to have connived with members of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ), who were given 50 million Naira to facilitate the smooth passage of the bill had sidelined the opposition members.

It was gathered that the money given by the governor and shared by Paul Biam was  only given to members of the ruling party sidelining the opposition bloc which has sprout the current agitation and call for Ayu’s head.

Meanwhile,  the closed door session ended with a resolve to sit by six O’clock, but unknown to the members, the clerk of the house had directed his staff to lock the Chambers and securely lock the hammer and attendance books to forestall any unplanned occurrence which at the time of filling this report were under lock and key, even as he left before the end of the executive session.

It can be recalled that the members of the state Assembly are in a running battle withWITH the state governor over owed three months salaries and allowances which caused the assembly members to vow to frustrate any bill sent by the governor in protest and consequently leading to the walkout which has culminated into this current crisis.
