Gov. Gabriel Suswam

It has been discovered that the  Benue State governor, Dr Gabriel Suswam is behind the refusal to appear before the Benue House of Assembly by the three government officials summoned to explain the state’s financial situation and non payment of workers salaries.

According to information available to our correspondent, Suswam is not leaving any stone unturned to scuttle the appearance of the State Commissioner for Finance, Omadachi Oklobia,  Special Adviser to the Governor on local Government and chieftaincy matters Mr Solomon Wombo and Gabriel Asen, Head of the Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS ),  from Appearing before the state lawmakers to offer explanations over the non payment of  Salaries.

Attempts by the lawmakers who are also demanding that the aforementioned officials clarify allegations of misappropriation of state funds ranging in billions against them,
to drill the three officials were frustrated a few days ago when they appeared before state asembly as the Chambers of the assembly was thrown into darkness as a result of power outage and her claimed inability to provide diesel for the complex’ generator.

According to insider reports, the Governor, after he returned from the funeral of one of his commissioner, Hon Aondowase Chia, convened a meeting Friday with 14 members of assembly led by a principal official to see how the issue can be solved without bickering considering the fortunes of the party in the forthcoming general elections.

Our source further says the major issue discussed by the legislators who gave conditions for withdrawal of the notice on the public officers, was the governor’s failure to meet up financial demands of the legislators, when most of them were on their way out even as they lost their nomination s for a return in the next dispensation.

The assembly members who were merely playing to the gallery by summoning Oklobia, Wombo and Asen also put forward the following demands:
*that the Governor pay the balance of their transport allowance to date
*that  the Governor should immediately pay their salaries (assembly members) .
*that the governor should pay budget processing fee to the various committees to facilitate the passage of the budget.

The meeting which was inconclusive is to be reconvened at the instance of  Chief Emmanuel  Agbo, the state Chairman of the PDP this evening to permanently put to rest the probe.
