Following the strike action embarked upon by the academic staff Union of Universities ( ASUU ), Benue state University chapter , the Benue State government is believed to have put plans in motion to  withdraw the university’s autonomy

.

According to information available to atiterkula,  the new arrangements will involve staff of Benue Internal Revenue Service ( BIRS ) to be posted to the university revenue collection points / center

Before now , BSU enjoyed autonomy , collecting its revenue, imposing tax on students from examination fees through scratch cards to access results , including registration online.
In the proposed arrangement which is consequent on the incessant strike actions by the school, even as the state government claims to have been responsive to the appeals and welfare of the institution and also pay salaries, yet the school failed to appreciate their contribution as the lecturers went on strike barely 10 days into the month of March .

Anninsider who confided in our reporter said the state government had already taken the decision and  “very soon all revenue accruing from BSU would be paid into government account and  if the  school is in need of it,they would apply like ministries and agencies”.

However , ASUU- BSU has vowed to resist this attempt.

” we are not like civil servants who stayed in office one month without touching a single file ,ours is research and teaching , so you can not stand in the class room with over 300 students hungry”. An ASUU – BSU  member said.
