. As Suswam plans to move in
The newly inaugurated Benue State chapter of the Accord Party is already bedevilled with leadership crisis, as members have begun circulating text messages disclaiming some of its claimed leaders.
The party which was hitherto unknown until decampees from the All Progressives Congress ( APC ), led by former APC deputy governorship candidate, Alh. Usman Abubakar joined it enmasse.
The party which has become factionalize along the lines of old and new Accord Party, is said to be in a tussle as to who originally owns the party structure between the old and new members. As the Young Alhaji and his cronies are accused of taking over the party and sidelining its older members.
A broadcast text message sent to our reporter’s phone, the party has further disowned Amb. Mike Gbasha who they claim “has been parading himself as imaginary State Leader of Accord Party of Zones A&B”.
“This is to inform Accord Party Members in Benue State to henceforth stop attending any Accord Party Meetings called by Amb. Mike Gbasha, who has been parading himself as imaginary “State Leader” of “Accord Party of Zones “A” & “B”, operating from the fringe. Such meetings are illegal and unauthorized both at the State and National Level of our party. You are either a member of Accord Benue State or remain disaccord with Oneness and Progress. God Bless the people of Benue State.” The text warned.
A source close to the leadership of the party has however revealed that the crisis cannot be unconnected to plans by the state governor, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Suswam, to pitch tents with the party to realise his Senatorial ambition which seems unrealiseable in the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ), where it is rumoured that Sen. Barnabas Gemade is favoured by the presidency and the National Executive Council of the party.
He also revealed to atiterkula that the APC decampees had prior to their decamping held a secret meeting with Suswam at one of the government lodges in Lobi quarters, where he mobilised them financially to move into the Accord Party so as to prepare an alternative platform for him and his cronies to relocate if things go south in the PDP.
