INEC Explains Fall in Number of Legible Voters in Benue

The Independent Electoral Commission, INEC has given reasons why only about 1.7 million voters in Benue state will be issued with permanent voters card when it commence issuance on 23rd May, 2014.

The INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Alhaji BAba Abba Yusuf told members of the Assembly during a closed door meeting that some could not obtain the permanent card due to multiple registrations while others were found to be minors at the time of registration.

 Governor Gabriel Suswam has earlier announced work free day at the commencement of the continuous voters’ registration exercise in the state to enable those who were not able to register for reason of age and those who are caught up by the multiple registration palaver to present themselves for registration.

It would be recalled that the Assembly had mandated its Committee on Electoral Matters and Civil Society Organisation chaired by Hon Dehiin Zuai, Gboko East State Constituency to interact with the Commission on the matter and report back to the House within 24 hours.
