The Independent National Electoral Commission says of the 2.1 million registered voters in from Benue state as at 2011, only 1.7 are entitled to permanent voters card.
He said the commission discovered cases of underage registration as well as cases of multiple registrations.
The development has left Governor Suswam in a state of confusion and has announced that a public holiday will be declared at the resumption of voters continuous registration exercise in the state to enable those who would not be issued with the permanent voter’s card to register.
INEC is scheduled to commence issuance of permanent voters card in the state from 23r May, 2014 while continuous registration takes effect at the same period.
Meanwhile, the Benue state House of Assembly has expressed worry over the revelation and has mandated its committee on electoral matters to interact with INEC with view to collecting what the House termed anomaly.
The Committee has 24 hours to report back to the House.
Benue state has a population of over four million by the 2006 population census. Millions would be disenfranchised from the 2015 general election if the situation is not addressed.
The House is worried moreso that only three days are slated for the exercise.
