There was pandemonium at Bature village, a Tiv settlement in Giza development area of Keana local government council of Nasarawa state following the killing of a middle age Tiv farmer, Mr. Nyamibo Tsombur by suspected Fulani herdsmen at the early hours of yesterday.
Nyamibo was said to have been killed by the attackers when he staged resistance to an attempt by the invading herdsmen to rape his wife who had been a lone in the farm when the attackers shot him at close range.
Information gathered inform that the deceased had on hearing a strange shout from his wife who was working alone in the farm to see what was happening when the gunmen opened fire on him and took away his corpse to an unknown destination.
Two of the deceased’s relations, Nyima Ikyiva and Jonathan Faga who rushed to the farm on hearing the gunshots, were also shot by the attackers. They were however rushed to an undisclosed hospital within the state where they are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO of the Nasarawa state command, ASP Numan Ismaila said the command was not aware of the incident.
But paramount ruler of Giza chiefdom, HRH, Umaru Ilegu Abu ll confirmed the incident, pointing out that the matter was already being handled by relevant authorities.
The incident occurred barely three days after a peace agreement was signed between Tiv, Gwandara and Fulani communities in the area to ceasefire and to cooperate with the state government in the bid to return all displaced persons to their places of abode.
President of Tiv Youth Organisation in the state, Hon. Peter Igbacher Kwembe who condemned the incident in a telephone interview with our correspondent said it was highly regrettable that the incident was happening when the Tiv and Fulani herdsmen has just resolved to live in peace.
He called on the state government and security agencies in the state to be more proactive in their efforts towards restoring permanent peace in the state, just as he appealed to his kinsmen not to take revenge.
It would be recalled that some unknown gunmen had recently killed a Tutor with Government Secondary School, Giza, Hyacinth Gbaju in the same area where his body has not been found till today.
