Against the backdrop of upsurge in hostilities between Fulani herdsmen and farmers across some states in the North, the National President of the umbrella body of cattle breeders, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, has confirmed that terrorists have infiltrated their organisation.
Bodejo made the startling revelation at the Niger Governor’s Lodge, Abuja, late on Thursday night, after a meeting of the Northern Governors Forum.
Speaking with journalists after their meeting with the governors, he lamented that most of perpetrating those deadly acts were terrorists who infiltrated their ranks, using it to cause violence.
He said Fulani people had been living peacefully with farmers over the years and emphasised that the recent arrest of some Fulani herdsmen, who confessed to be Boko Haram members, had vindicated the association of their involvement in the attacks.
Reacting to this development, the 19 Northern Governors under the aegis of the Northern States Governors Forum called on Fulani herdsmen to help in exposing deviants in their midst and encourage their wards in their educational pursuit.
The governors also expressed gratitude to the federal government for drawing up an action plan (short, medium and long term) to address the issues of grazing reserve, cattle routes as a well as provision of amenities in their settlements to encourage transition to intensive sedentary system of livestock production where pasture is sown and harvested.
These were part of the resolutions reached after a meeting between the governors and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and other associations.
