Rep  Emmanuel Jime has described the suffering of the Benue people who are daily sacked from their ancestral homes by Fulani marauders as the experience of a failed nation.

Emmanuel Jime

He said that the main function of government is to protect and provide for her citizens saying where there is no security of lives and properties of the citizen, as in the case today in Nigeria and Benue state at the moment, it means the state has failed and there is no governance.

The Makurdi/Guma representative at the National Assembly stated this while delivering to the displaced persons relief materials including, food stuff, detergents, cloths etc worth about #3m.

Jime handed over the relief materials to the Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Parish North Bank, Very Rev. Fr. Beba who was assisted by Fr. Solomon Mffa of Daudu Parish who himself a refugee now staying with Beba at St. Mary.

He explained that the strategy is to avoid a situation where the materials may be shared with partisan inclinations or sectional sentiments and the fear of camp managers cornering the materials as in previous experiences.

” I am your representative, my work is to ask questions. I have been asking and would continue to ask but it is unfortunate that I lack powers to execute”.

“I have not come to see you as a one only sympathizing with you. I am part of you because, as you know, my father’s house, our land have, just as yours, been completely taken over by our enemies”.

He assured the people of other security efforts to ensure the killings have come to an end.

Fr. Solomon Mffa who has been managing the camps charged the people not to forget God even in their sufferings and called on other spirited individuals to emulate Jime and the others that came before to ensure the people are catered for.

The camps visited included the St. Mary’s Primary School, North-Bank and the most populated but not known one at Aper Aku Housing Estate, Makurdi, while leaders of other camps including Daudu and Agan were present to collect the share of the materials for their camps.
