illegal immigrants arrested by NIS in Makurdi

The Nigerian immigration Service has informed that the service yesterday, arrested 321 illegal immigrants in Makurdi and were already interrogating them to know the purpose of their visit.

This is even as it intimated that it has put together modalities to strengthen border security in preparation of the forthcoming elections, amidst the rising state of violence permeated by the Boko Haram sect.

This was made known by the Comptroller General, D.S Parrang during an interactive session with journalists yesterday, who noted that the service had decided to strengthen the security at the nation’s borders with the introduction of border patrol corps to man the border control posts and entry points.

According to him, the service which has lost 37 men to the Boko haram scourge was leaving no stone unturned to stop the influx of illegal immigrants whom have been claimed to be fomenting the trouble.

While fielding questions from newsmen the CG also informed that the service had embarked on registration of all expatriates resident in the country to curtail entrance of foreigners with questionable criminal records.

Meanwhile the service has also announced that it will carry out the aptitude test for recruitment of personnel on the 15th March in all the states of the federation.

It could be recalled that sometime last year, the service had come under heavy criticism for sale of forms for recruitment while being accused of not carrying out the exercise.
