The Makurdi-Otukpo-Enugu highway was abridged for over six hours today when youths from Apir community, a suburb of Makurdi, Benue State capital blocked the road due to the killing of one Tarshar Namakaa, a local cattle rearer by people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen dressed in military uniform.
Namakaa who is a cattle rearer for coordinator of Subsidy Reinvestment Programme, SURE-P in the state, Engr. Samuel Utoo, was killed in early hours of the day when he took the cattle which were 57 in number for grazing.

Vehicles plying the route from the northern and south eastern axis of the country waited for more than six hours for the youths to remove the woods and tyres of vehicles they used in blocking the road before continuing with their journey.
According to Engr. Utoo, Namakaa had gone out as usual to graze the cattle before he was gruesomely murdered while the cattle were forcefully taken away by the assailants.
The youth leader of Apir community, Joseph Agera said their protest was to register their grievance and make government react to the seeming impunity by Fulani herdsmen who have been causing mayhem in the state.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Daniel Ezeala confirmed the development but said the police was yet to make arrest.
