Idoma people of Benue State have decided to move towards finding lasting answer to the regular attack on Agatu people by suspected Fulani herdsmen and ensure permanent peace in the area.

Rising from an epic meeting at the Och’Idoma’s palace in Otukpo last Tuesday, where a peaceful demonstration embarked upon by prominent sons and daughters of Idoma nation against the killings in Agatu people terminated, the Idoma stakeholders who attended the rally agreed to write a letter to the Sultan of Sokoto to officially notify him of the ugly trend and seek his intervention.

It was also agreed during the meeting that government at all levels should be informed of the need to enact a workable law against the unlawful carriage of firearms to checkmate the activities of the attackers.

The rally which was at the instance of a lecturer in Benue State Polytechnic, Mrs Diana Ochoga, also saw the setting up of a committee which was mandated to meet with the senate president, David Mark and register the people’s agitation for peace.

It was also agreed that a strong civil society organization be set up to mobilize relief materials for the purpose of alleviating the sufferings of those who were directly affected by the crisis.

It would be recalled that scores of lives were lost in Agatu local government area recently owing to incessant attack of the area by suspected Fulani invaders.
