Suswam to Chair HYPADEC

The Minister of State, Hajiya Zainab Ibrahim Kuchi has hinted that Benue state governor, Gabriel Suswam will be the desired person to head the Hydro Electric Power Area Development Commission (HYPADEC)

According to the minister the coming on-board of Governor Suswam will assist Federal Government in the realization of both Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro-electric projects thus improving the nation’s energy security and mix.

 The Governor of Benue State, Dr. Gabriel Suswam who had earlier expressed his happiness that his State will soon experience socio-economic boom – courtesy of the newly completed 330KVA power transmission line. 

Speaking in Abuja, while on working visit to the Ministry, Governor Suswam said that economic activities would experience boom as small scale industries and other agro-based end-users of electricity have steady power supply linked with the Federal Capital Territory. He said for so long, Benue State had experienced epileptic supply of power occasioned by the inadequacies associated with the old arrangement of non-connection to the national grid since its creation in 1976.

Speaking to newsmen, Governor Suswam also expressed satisfaction with the recent amendment to Hydro Electric Power Area Development Commission HYPADEC Act 2010 which now accommodated Benue State, the implication is that Benue State is to send a representation to serve on the commission and also enjoy the goodies accruable to other States in HYPADEC.

Commenting on the visit of Governor Suswam, Professor Chinedu Nebo said the Ministry is excited by it as it would enable us fashion out way forward, just as he observed that all hands are on deck to ensure uninterrupted power supply nation-wide. “A lot of investments in the power sector that would rejuvenate generation and distribution activities adding that the on-going privatization would ensure seamless change in ownership without any disruption” The Minister said that Governor Suswam as a member of Board of National Integrated Power Project, NIPP, and now on the Board of HYPADEC are prove to show, the Governor’s commitment and stake in power.
