Panic in Makurdi as police Impounds Car filled with Arms

There is panic in Makurdi, Benue State capital after a car laden with arms and explosives was impounded last Friday night by the Police around Ankpa Quarters junction.

According to reports reaching atiterkula, the car, a Volkswagen golf which had five occupants ran into some policemen who carrying out stop-and-search exercise suddenly stopped on reaching the policemen while the occupants started running out of the car.

On spotting the running occupants of the car police became curious of them and immediately went after them and in the process, shot and apprehended one of them.

The boot of the said car was laden with arms even as the arrested man, who wore a caftan, told the policemen that they were coming from Naka road where one of the biggest churches in the state capital is located.

“I went to buy recharge card around Ankpa Quarters junction when suddenly I heard a gunshot. Many of us ran to the direction of the sound and discovered that a man had been shot beside a car laden with arms and explosives,” the source said.

The source further disclosed that a device that looked like a rocket launcher was discovered under one of the seats while assorted guns were also found on the arrested suspect who allegedly confessed that they were Boko Haram members.

Conversely, when contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Daniel Ezeala debunked the rumour that the occupants of the car were Boko Haram members, insisting that the occupants of the vehicle consisted three gunmen which one was arrested by the police and the other two escaped.

according to Ezeala the police are already on the trail of the other suspects and disclosed further that the police was in custody of the vehicle while investigation was in progress.
