ImageIrked by the persistent attack by Fulani herdsmen which has led to the death scores of people and properties worth millions of naira destroyed, elders and well-known people of Agatu local government area of Benue State have turned to God to help prevent a re-occurrence.

The council chairman, Mr. Stephen Dutse said the leaders and other stakeholders in the area have met and resolved to set aside three Fridays beginning from yesterday to embark on prayer and fasting for divine protection.

A statement signed by the chairman and made available to atiterkula said it has become necessary to seek God’s intervention in the face of the frequent attacks on Agatu people by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

No fewer than 60 persons have lost their lives in three attacks by Fulanis within the last two months while over10,000 people are said to have been displaced while academic activities in the area had long been suspended before vacation period.

Mr. Dutse urged Christians and Moslems in the area to observe the fasting and prayer for peace to reign in the troubled council area stressing that socio-economic activities of the area have been paralyzed and that it would take a long time before normal activities can be restored.

He therefore called on the people of the state to always remember the people of the area in their prayers even as he appealed to both the state and federal governments to help halt the invasion of the people by the rampaging Fulanis.
