Death toll in the renewed Fulani/Tiv crisis in local government areas of Keana and Obi in Nasarawa state have reportedly risen to 27 following attacks on more communities by the suspected Fulani marauders.

The gunmen had in the early hours of Wednesday attacked and killed not less than 16 persons in Kuduku community of Keana local government area destroying property worth millions of Naira.

In continuation of their attacks, the suspected mercenaries yesterday invaded more settlements of the Tiv people across the two affected local government areas of Keana and Obi where more casualties were recorded just as about 30,000 farmers mostly women and children have fled their homes.

The affected communities included; Kuduku, Ajo, Ukiriki, Tse-Akura and Akoor among others with houses completely destroyed by the invaders.

President, Tiv Youth Organisation, Hon. Peter Igbacher Kwembe who confirmed the casualty figure in a telephone conversation with our correspondent described the attack as unprovoked, calling on the state government to be more proactive in arresting the situation.

Although what prompted the attack could not be immediately ascertained, sources suggested that the incident is not unconnected with alleged attack on some Fulani herdsmen by unknown persons around Kuduku community.

Reports reaching atiterkula have it that some herdsmen numbering about seven had, while trying to relocate with their cows allegedly occupied the road linking Kuduku and Giza communities with a large number of cows, a development that could not go down well with a motorcyclist who according to reports, told the herdsmen to push their cows to one side of the road to enable him gain passage.

Trouble was however said to have ensued when the herdsmen allegedly refused to honour the request made by the motorcyclist as he (Motorcyclist) was said to have forcefully pushed one of the cows aside which resulted to a clash that left the cyclist injured.

Aggrieved by the development, some angry youths from Kuduku community were said to have quickly mobilised and confronted the herdsmen in a fracas that left five persons dead.

It was further learnt that before the incident, 25 people believed to be of the Alago ethnic extraction from Keana town were arrested by the security operatives deployed to keep surveillance in the troubled areas with stolen house hold items belonging to the deserted Tiv farmers in Kuduku and Obosidoma communities.

Efforts to obtain comments from the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu were unsuccessful as he failed to pick several calls put to his mobile phone.
