The inability of the Benue state government to properly supervise and sanction earning members of the State Executive Council has cost the state the opportunity to have the zonal offices of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and Voice of Nigeria (VON) located in makurdi which should have helped absorbed close to 200 unemployed youths in the state.

In a strong worded petition addressed to the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Chief Steven Lawani dated 28th June 2013 by a Human Rights activist chronicling the monumental fraud at the state ministry for Information and Orientation, the petitioner stated that sometimes in 2012, the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria had approved the location of its zonal office for the North Central zone to Makurdi from Gwagwalada with its attendant
benefits which include increased publicity to government activities and the recruitment of Benue indigenes into its workforce.

The petitioner, Messrs Titus Uvah pointed out in the petition that despite government directives that the then Commissioner for Information and Orientation now posted to the Ministry of Water Resources Engr. Conrad Wergba should make arrangement for office accommodation to commence operation by FRCN, he collected handsome sum from the ministry of Finance and frustrated the whole noble process.

Messrs Uvah stated further that another Benue journalist working with the Voice of Nigeria in a deliberate effort to contribute his quota to the development of the state also wrote his organization informing them of the desirability of the Benue state government to partner with media organizations interested in operating in the state and whence the letter
reached the VON Director General, Mallam Abubakar Jijiwa, he quickly indicated the willingness of the organization to operate in the state and even send a correspondent to be covering news event in Benue but requested the government to assist donate an office for take-off.

The Human Rights activist expressed worry that immediately Governor Gabriel Suswam approved that a memo should be raised so as to acquire and furnish a standard office for the use of VON, Conrad wergba in his characteristic manner hurriedly approach the fiancé commissioner Mr. Omadachi Oklobia where he collected the whopping sum of N17 million through a UBA Cheque only for him to have used N1.4 million to pay for an office complex at the high-level area of Makurdi with no furniture  diverting the remaining N15.6million to complete his hotel building in Gboko.

The petitioner submitted that whence the Benue state government could not accommodate the reputable media outfits due to the fraudulent activities of the then Information Commissioner the minister of Information Mr. Labaran Maku who is in indigene of Nasarawa state cornered the two zonal offices to Lafia where about 155 indigenes have been given job placement at the detriment of Benue indigenes.

According to Messrs Uvah the height of the fraud was established when officials of the state Ministry of Information informed that Conrad Wergba who till today has not gone to hand over officially to the new commissioner also removed the file containing records of activities on the transaction concerning the office of Voice of Nigeria before he left office to his new
place of posting.
He warned that should the monumental fraud perpetuated by Conrad Wergba go unpunished by the state government, he will have no option than petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for necessary reprimand.

Sources close to the commisioner have it that Hon Wergba threatened to kill any Journalist or any medium that publishes such mischievous blackmail adding that governor Gabriel Suswam is fully in the know of what transpired in the transanction.

Adding that the owners of the office accomodation he secured for the purpose is still occupied saying the Landlord one Mr Mku has been giving him assurance that the tenants shall soon vacate the premises.
