The Benue state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comr. Simon Anchaver was yesterday lynched in a mob action by protesters in the botched nationwide NLC protest.
The protest which mobilised 1150 protesters from the 23 local government areas of the state to Makurdi, the Benue state capital, was hitherto cancelled by the Central Working Committee of the union in a last minute meeting between the NLC and the federal government and thus was not supposed hold was however put in motion on the insistence of the crowd who anchored their insistence on non payment of the agreed 18% minimum wage agreement by the state government.
According to the state secretary Comr. Emmanuel Jumpa, the protesters insisted on carrying on with the protest owing to the impending non implementation and fulfilment of the earlier agreed salary structure, to which the NLC chairman assented but adviced that it be peaceful and not lead to the government house as earlier planned but the NUT secretariat to which the protesting mob disagreed leading to a mob action which earned Comr. Anchaver a merciless mob rush. Although no serious bodily harm was reported to have been sustained, the matter was apprehended by the police who made arrests but Anchaver in turn refused to press charges.
Meanwhile our correspondent gathered that teachers in the state had long borne a grudge against Anchaver whom they had accused of compromising their fate for monetary gains and even neglected them for politics as he has since indicated his interest to run for the governorship of the state.
Corroborating our findings the NUT State Chairman Comrade Godwin Anya, exonerated himself from short changing teachers, and accused the NLC for being responsible for the predicament Primary school teachers are going through regarding the minimum wage.

“The NLC chairman has conspired with government to prevent implementation of the N18, 000 minimum wage to primary school teachers in the state”, Anya stressed.
