As a result of the recent floods, Benue state governor Gabriel Suswam has also lost 300 hectares of rice which have been washed away. The Benue state governor made this revelation when the leadership of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation donated relief materials to victims of the flood disaster in Benue state. According to Suswam who received the materials on behalf of the victims noted that though the impact on property was much in Makurdi the state capital,  there was also much damage in the rural areas  where mostly farms were affected amongst which was his 300 hectare farm.Suswam who is also a member of the board of trustees of the foundation, warned that there could be food shortage in the nation if these losses are not properly handled, advising that the federal government to take decisive measures at curbing the impending famine. He also informed that the state government had received her share of the federal government relief  grant which it intends to use in acquisition of houses from the Federal Housing Authority to resettle victims whose houses were destroyed by the flood.Delivering the materials on behalf of the foundation, Justice Mamman Nasir, noted that the donation was in reflection of the late Sardauna’s ideology which was promotion of peace and unity. He thus called on Nigerians to embrace unity for the betterment of the nation
