The majority leader of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Paul Biam was allegedly kidnapped by suspected gunmen sunday night.

The incident occurred when gunmen, operating under the auspices of Gyenev youths, reportedly invaded the residence of the caretaker committee chairman of Ukum Local Government, Mr. Terfa Bossua, who was said to be having a meeting with the majority leader and other stakeholders at Akya village in Zaki-Biam town.

According to findings by atiterkula , the majority leader been variously accused of masterminding the political fracas that engulfed the ruling PDP in Ukum LGA, his home town, the development it was learnt caused the caretaker chairman of the council to call for a peace keeping meeting.

An eye witness who craved anonymity told our reporter that the hoodlums, numbered 30, had pursued the majority leader 3 kilometers away from Zaki-Biam town, when he was on his way to attend the meeting and that they shot sporadically into the air.

atiterkula further gathered that after the lawmaker had spotted the gunmen, he quickly drove to another route and found himself to the residence of the council chairman, venue of the stakeholders meeting.

But the fierce looking youths reportedly found themselves into the venue when the meeting was on and disrupted it, kidnapped and destroyed property. The hoodlums also smashed a hilux van and another vehicle belonging to the state commissioner for works and transport, Mr. Benjamin Ashaver and the chief of staff to the governor, Prof. Saint Gbilekaa.

The police at Zaki-Biam were deployed to the scene of the incident to maintain law and order, as well as protect lives and properties.

The Majority Leader, Mr. Paul Biam who briefed newsmen yesterday, in Makurdi, after he was rescued from the gunmen confirmed that the incident happened and said it was the handiwork of his political opponents who, he said wanted to assassinate him.

“Thirty youths with dangerous weapons disrupted the meeting and the commissioner’s car was smashed. Some gunmen also attempted to assassinate my life but the plot failed. This is a systematic build up by my political opponents, ahead of 2015.” Biam said.

It is worthy to recall that some hired assassins had, in July, 2012 shot the younger brother to the majority leader, Mr. Felix Orngu Biam, who is a graduate of the Benue state University Makurdi, when the gunmen had attacked the lawmaker’s home.

It looks to me like it was an attempted kidnap bro. Why call it a kidnap? In any case this wave of lawlessness must not engulf Benue state. God help us
