Hosting World Tourism Day Celebration will help expose damage caused by flood – Lawani

ImageBenue State Deputy Governor, Chief Steve Lawani, has hinted that the decision for the

state to host the nation in this year’s World Tourism week is also a strategy aimed at

bringing the gravd damage caused by the flood to fore.

Lawani who lamented the poor publicity given the disaster in the state noted that

although the state is in a crisis, it had agreed to host the event because such an event will

attract participants from accross the nation and thus has the potential to show to the world

the sufferings occassioned by the recent flood.

The Deputy Governor however acknowledged that the state had the potentials of

becoming a leader in the tourism industry and so part of the decision to host the event

was informed by the potentialities and benefits that lie therein.

Also speaking at the press breifing which held at the banquet hall of Benue government

house, makurdi, the state commissioner for Tourism, Mrs. Comfort Ajene, informed

newsmen that the state had put in place a tourism blueprint aimed at fostering the tourism

industry in the state.

According to her the state has already given lease the Sheraton hotel project which was

initiated over thirty years ago and had been abandoned by successive governments. She

said the project had been leased to a private investor who has already completed 65% of

the work and stated that the hotel will be ready by December.

The commissioner also highlighted the aboundance of tourist attraction sites in the state,

which she noted that the government has as a matter of priority launched into making

such ma sites as the ikyogen cattle ranch productive and commercially viable so as to a

attract tourists and revenue to the state.

    Yes that would have been an impressive idea only if the gov. Will be serious about it, even the river benue would be another huge source of income to the state if the state gov. Will drain it and then turn it to port autority, you can understand the huge money that will be coming out from there.
