ImageThe Benue state government has announced that it shall spend five
million Naira on the supply of water to rural Areas in the year 2012.
According to the commissioner of water resources, Hon. John Ngbede,
the ministry is poised to end the water challenge in the state.
Hon. Ngbede who made this known during the ongoing accountability
press briefing at the Ministry for Information and Orientation
conference hall yesterday, noted that the state government after
commissioning water works in Otukpo and Katsina- Ala, the government
had finalised plans to also construct a water treatment and supply
plant in gboko to ease the stress on the greater water works.
Also speaking at the briefing Commissioner for Information Hon. Conrad
Wergba, attributed the inability to take off of the Benue Television
to the unprofessional handling of the structural work by the
contractor, says the Commissioner for Information and Orientation,
Conrad Wergba.
The commissioner said that though the project is one of the most
prominent on the mind of the state governor, the fact that the project
which was awarded by his predecessor but to a novice has made it to
unfortunately have a tortuous journey.
Hon. Wergba, also decried the negative publicity the administration
received towards the end of the first term courtesy of unwarranted
badmouthing from opposition parties, prominent amongst them, the
Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the All Nigeria Peoples Party
(ANPP).
He however stated that Suswam’s administration has succeeded in moving
the television project beyond the inertia of the past, saying in 2010,
the television commenced trial transmission but had to discontinue for
non-installation of some vital and critical components including
amongst others, the shortness of the mast as well as the mistaken
installation of crated components that had begun to deteriorate owing
to their usually long abandonment in suffocating containers “here in
the tropical”.
He revealed that already, the administration has approved money for
the repurchase of the same components promising that later this year;
all the identified challenges will be sorted out for the public to
start accessing Benue Television programmes on their receivers and
monitors.
Mr. Wergba appealed to the opposition parties in the state to rather
than deplore their wealth to giving the state bad image, they should
put same together for the common development of the state.
