THE Managing Director of Dangote Cement Plant factory Gboko in Benue State, Mr. Shree Junnarkar has blamed the current hike in cement prices on the activities of the middlemen and not the company.
Alh. Aliko Dangote
The Managing Director who gave this indication in Gboko yesterday noted with surprise that the cement which is N1,350 per bag at the factory is being sold for about two thousand Naira by business men in towns, a situation he said was aim at exploiting the masses.

He said the company is considering the possibilities of establishing depots at some designated places across the state so as to check the menace of middle men noting that no responsible company like Dangote will afford to look the other way while the host Benue community is purchasing the product at exorbitant rates.
Meanwhile, one of the transporters, Mr. John Mue, also attributed increase in the price to the activities of the middlemen at the factory whom he said collect some fee from transporters before allowing them access into the factory for loading the product as well as the pay check- point dues on the high way.

Mr. Mue also complained that apart from the increment from N.9million to over one million by the management of Dangote cement which was the cost of lifting a truck of the product, they have to stay in the business and so have to adjust the price a little high so as to remain afloat.

Investigation revealed that a bag of cement is being sold between Two thousand and in some cases Two thousand Four hundred Naira in Gboko and makurdi the Benue state capital.

A cement dealer, Mr. Isiah, who also blamed the situation on the numerous roadblocks, noted that, until road blocks are dismantled across the state, the price would not come down.

According to him, the dealers are used to hiring stores from land lords at the exorbitant rates while in some cases the security agents also settled so as to move fast on the high way.

” All these have to be counted at the end of the day to arrive at a final price to be pegged.”He said.
