Federal Government to Re-construct Collapse Church that Killed 22 in Benue

The Federal government of Nigeria has promised to reconstruct the
collapsed church building at St Robert Catholic Church Adamgbe in
Vadeikya local Government Area of Benue state that collapsed killing
22persons.

Governor Gabriel Suswam who disclosed this during a visit to the
church to assess the damage of the disaster and condole the bereaved
families of the mishap said even though the federal government does not
partake in construction of religious structures, the circumstance of
the event spurred it in taking such an action for the first time in
history.

According to the governor, the tragedy as painful as it is could be a
sign purposely design by God to prove something to the people of the
state.

“There is every reason in every thing that God does and I believed
that this could be a way for Him to bring more blessings not only to
the church, Adamgbe community or Vandeikya local government but the state as a whole”,the governor said.

Governor Suswam who also announced the N10 million naira donation made
by the Bauchi state governor Alhaji Isah Yuguda to the victims,
promised to upset the hospital bills of those injured from the church
collapse as well as take care of the burial expenses of those who died
in the disaster.

Earlier, the Vandeikya local government Caretaker chairman Mr. Mom
Dogwo said the tragedy be it as it may is a national calamity saying
the incident is significant given that it had happened while
Christians were celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ
at Easter.

While thanking the Bauchi State Governor Isah Yuguda for the show of
love he has exhibited to the people of Benue state in their trying
moment, the Chairman also expressed his gratitude to governor Jonah
Jang of Plateau state and the Kebbi state governor who have also
registered their condolence to the victims of the disaster.

Also speaking, the priest in charge of St. Robert Catholic Mission Rev
Fr. Cosmos Jooli who thanked Government at levels for their quick
response and assistance given to the victims of the church collapse
advised people not to use the mishap as a way of making money but
consider it as an opportunity to serve God.

It could be recalled that St. Robert catholic Mission at Adamgbe in
Vandeikya local government area of Benue state the previous Saturday
collapsed why Christians were carrying out Easter activities killing
22 persons and injuring 37 others.

A mass burial for the deceased has been arranged to take place on
Friday, 20 April 2012.
