AKUME’S EIGHT YEARS WERE A MIS-RULE – AKWAYA

Special Adviser to Benue State Governor on media and public affairs, Dr. Cletus Akwaya, has once again lent his voice concerning the rift between his principal and Sen. Minority Leader, Sen. George Akume .

Akwaya who attributed the on-going rift to what he termed, Akume’s unquenchable desire to control the Benue  government house for the sole purpose of helping himself to public till.

According to Akwaya, even the on-going certificate saga is a scheme initiated by the former governor to distabilise and distract the governor from hisee duties in the state.

Akwaya who had previously served in Akume’s regime as Commissioner for information, also talked down the eight years Akume held sway as chief executive, a  Period of misrule. According to him, the former’s tenure was characterised with lack lustre in road construction and infrastructural development, comparing this to Suswam who he Said had performed enormously a feat which he says has earned the governor the award of mr. infrastructure.

In defence of the governor, Akwaya stated that his principal had performed creditably well in the area of housing and water provision, areas criticised earlier by Akume. According to him, Akume had failed in the area of water provision.

“It is a well known fact that senator Akume never set out to execute the  Greater Makurdi water project as it was merely and avenue for  siphoning public funds…N800 million was paid for the project and the only works done was excavation works of five metres depth…” He stated.

This was in response to allegations by the Senate Minority Leader, Sen. George Akume, who had earlier on taken a swipe at his successor, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Suswam, who he criticised his administration.

The former state Governor had challenged his sucessor to make public information about his controversial certificate and the details of the greater Makurdi water project . According  to Akume, the project is shrouded on falsehood and  a project aimed at carting away the state’s funds.

Akume in a challenge to journalists in the state had asked that Governor Suswam and Dr. Akwaya come out and clear the controversies sorrounding these issues.

It is worthy of note that both erstwhile political bedmates have been embroiled in a war of words and supremacy since 2009 which culminated in Akume’s decamping to the ACN.
