SUSWAM READS RIOT ACT TO OPPOSITION

Benue state Governor, Rt Hon. Gabriel Suswam, has warned that he will
no longer  sit and fold his arms allowing  a couple of rascals
traumatize his state even as he insisted that the people of the state
have spoken in his favour through the ballot during the last
gubernatorial elections in the state.
Addressing a crowd of his supporters at IBB Square, Makurdi ,shortly
after returning from the United States of America, where he was away
on official assignment to woo foreign investors, the governor declared
that the people of Benue should know that gone are the days when a
cabal exist in the state and always decides what happens.
“I also want to sound this warning that, nobody in this state no
matter how highly place should make a mistake by taking my mature
handling of issues as a weakness”. He warned.
He also called on his brothers particularly his main challengers in
the last general elections including Prof. Steve Ugbah of the Action
Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Sen. (Prof.) Daniel Saror of the All
Nigerians Peoples Party (ANPP) to team up with him so that together
they can move the state forward.
The Governor said that the elections are over and whether or not some
people still feel he was not elected, at least the Courts have proven
them wrong, maintaining that all lovers of development should reflect
on the past for they will realize that Benue would have been better
developed if not for incessant leadership tussles.
In a related development, Thousands of protesters last week,besieged
and blocked strategic areas in Makurdi town including Wurukum
roundabout and Kanshio village preventing the free flow of traffic and
general commercial activities for over three hours.
The crowd of protesters that comprised Market women, civil servants,
youths amongst others said they were protesting against the Nigerian
Judiciary which according to them  has unfortunately become
“absolutely corrupt”, as well as the blatant refusal of the Governor
to implement the Minimum wage law .
Reacting to the protest the State governor through his special adviser
on media and public affairs, Dr. Cletus Akwaya, condemned the
protests. Dr. Akwaya in a satement made available to national accord,
said Governor Suswam has reiterated his commitment to  put an end to
all acts of violence perpetrated by sponsored democratic elements in
the state.
While assuring the people of the state to go about their duties
without let or hinderances, he said the state gorvernor has directed
the police and other security agencies to maintain vigilance and to
take all necessary measures within the confines of the law to maintain
peace in the state.
